Application

Initial Remarks:

The following details the application procedure for applying FrameWrapKing protective films to bike frames. FrameWrapKing cannot be responsible for loss or damage caused by improper installation, misuse, debris impact, accident, normal wear and tear.

Installation Tools:

  • Rubber squeegee
  • Scalpel / retractable knife
  • Tape measure
  • Lint free cloth
  • Spray bottles
  • Johnson’s Baby Shampoo (or similar mild, ph neutral shampoo)
  • Isopropyl alcohol

Installation Solutions:

  • Slip Solution:

500ml of water to 4 drops of baby shampoo

  • Tack Solution:

75% water and 25% isopropyl alcohol

Preparation & Cleaning:

Carefully prepare the surface before beginning to achieve best results. We recommend applying the film indoors in a clean, dry, dust free, well lit environment. The bike needs to be acclimated to reach room temperature of ≈ 20°C.

  • Wash the bike thoroughly with a mild detergent to remove all dirt.
  • Remove any surface contamination in a warm environment;  adhesive residue, wax, oil, grease etc.
  • Clean all areas with lint free cloth & isopropyl alcohol.
  • Ensure complete drying of surfaces using lint free cloth or heat gun.
  • Prepare and mix both slip and tack solutions in separate spray bottles.

Application:

  1. Wash your hands before starting application to avoid fingerprints on the film.
  2. Cut the film to the desired size.
  3. Spray slip solution on your fingers and the application area.
  4. Peel the liner from the film and spray the adhesive side with slip solution.
  5. Align the film in the correct position on the frame.
  6. Spray the surface of the film with slip solution to allow the squeegee to slide easily.
  7. Using overlapping strokes, squeegee out the slip solution.
  8. Use tack solution on areas where the film needs to be stretched.
  9. Working from the center out, ensure all air bubbles and solutions are removed.
  10. Wipe the surface dry and re-squeegee all of the edges.
  11. Keep the bike in a warm environment for 24 hours.
  12. After 24 hours inspect the film and use tack solution on any edges that lifted.

Removal:

Ideally the bike should be placed in a warm environment at about 20ºC for at least   2 – 3 hours before attempting removal.

  • Starting at an edge gently peel the film away from the edge of the surface, make a cut away from the bike and then strip from the vehicle in 10 inch sections.  This is best done at a 30-degree angle. This method will reduce any chance of paint coming off the vehicle.  Caution: Do not snatch the material away from the surface or attempt to remove any areas that have not been heated.
  • We cannot be held responsible for inappropriate removal methods or for poor paint/lacquer adhesion to the bikes paintwork.

Caution

  • This film is not a cure for rust. It is recommended that it is only fitted to paintwork that is in good condition.
  • Whilst the film will cope with most recesses and swage lines, it is possible to over-stretch the film. Very deep/textured recesses can still present difficulties.
